Regulations
Art.1. The piano competition of the ‘Andrée CHARLIER ’ Foundation is open to all pianists who, in Belgium :
Level 1
are - students from a School of Music
- candidates who can give prove of an equivalent private musical education
- students registered for a 1st year course of a High School of Music for 2012-2013.
Level 2
are: – students registered from the 2nd year baccalaureate on of a High School of Music for 2012-2013
- pianists who have completed the cycle of a High School of Music, at the latest 2 years ago.
Art. 2. The pianists, that have already participated in a previous competition of the Foundation but have not obtained the Foundation Prize, may register again on the condition they meet the requirements of Article 1.
Art.3. The entry fee of 20€ has to be paid on the account of the ‘Andrée CHARLIER’ Foundation N° 001-1010556-86, with the reference ‘ Piano Competition 2012 + candidate’s name + Level’.
The registration fee will not be refunded except if the contest is cancelled.
Art.4. The candidates are kindly requested to send their application form either online or by post to the following address: Michel Dumont Avenue d’Azebois, 57, 6041 Gosselies, no later than September 15, 2012.
A photograph (identity format on paper or at the jpg 300 dpi format) and a CV are also required.
Art.5. Applications will be considered after receipt of the registration fee only. They will be confirmed by the secretary’s office.
Art. 6. Program to be submitted :
Level 1
- a tempo of a classic sonata
- a piece of music from the repertory (19th – 20th – 21st century)
- a 3-voiced invention or a Prelude and Fugue by J.S.BACH
Level 2
- a baroque piece of music
- a tempo of a classic sonata
- a romantic piece of music
- a piece of music later than 1900
All the pieces of music will be performed from memory.
Art. 7. The competition is open to the public.
Art.8. The Foundation only has the rights to film, to record and to take photographs of the contestants during the competition.
Art.9. The jury only has the right to limit the performance of the candidates according to the number of competitors.
Art.10. The piano competition will take place in the premises of the ‘Conservatoire GRUMIAUX’ 1, rue Biarent in Charleroi on Saturday October 13, 2012.
Art.11. The order of performance will be fixed by the Foundation and communicated to the candidates in due time, after the deadline for entering application forms.
Art.12. The jury is under no obligation to award all the prizes.
Art.13. The decision of the jury is final (No appeal is possible).
Art.14. There will be THREE prizewinners at each level and the jury will award three prizes at each level included the ‘Andrée CHARLER’ Foundation Prize to the first laureate of each level, with at least 90 points (Level 1: 400€ – Level 2: 1000€).
Art.15. The prizes will be presented during a Gala Concert that will take place in the premises of the ‘Conservatoire Grumiaux’ 1, Biarentstreet in Charleroi at 4 o’clock on Sunday October 14, 2012.
All the prizewinners are responsible to receive their prize personally. If not the prizes will be returned to the competition funds.
Art.16 The first prizewinner of Level 1 will be requested to perform one piece of music of Max. 15 minutes on the occasion of that concert.
The first prizewinner of Level 2 will be requested to give a recital of Max. 30 minutes on the occasion of that concert.
Art.17. The Foundation reserves the right to modify the date of the competition or to cancel the contest or part of it should the number of candidates be judged insufficient.
Art.18. By submitting their entry form the candidates imply to agree with these regulations.
Art.19. These regulations are issued in English, German, Dutch and French. In the case of dispute, the French version shall be considered binding.
